SFO is the municipal out-of-school care provision before/after school for younger pupils. It provides supervision, play, culture and leisure activities.
Municipalities must offer SFO to pupils in grades 1–4, and to older pupils (often up to grade 7) with special needs, according to the general rules described in Udir’s information materials.
The national framework material highlights that parents should be informed about local price reduction schemes. Ask your municipality/school what reductions exist and how to apply—especially if you are a single parent with tight finances.
Do Better Norge note: SFO is often the bridge that lets parents work. If the price becomes a barrier, ask in writing about reductions and deadlines so you don’t miss support you qualify for.
